Welcome to the fourth month of the Eco-Friendly Saver Side Hustle Report. These posts detail all of the income my husband and I earned from side hustling using sharing economy, gig economy apps, money savings, and selling unwanted stuff.
UG3 broke her arm at the tail end of last month and my maternal grandfather died this month, so we had some unexpected expenses to cover while trying not to touch our emergency fund. We plan on building up our emergency fund once we've finished paying off the medical bills and cash flowing the trip for the funeral. We've been working on homeschooling, creating a free Grocery Savings Challenge, and decluttering. Even though we were keeping busy, we still side hustled! Here is the side hustle report for May's income.
Side Hustle Income for May 2019
- Control SMS App : $7.02
- S'More Lockscreen App: $3.10 Amazon Gift card
- Fetch Rewards Cash Back Grocery App: $5 Amazon Gift card
- Postmates Delivery app: $17
- Ebates: $1.64
- Rover dog care: $112
- Decluttering/Renting out Stuff: $935
Total Side Hustle Income for May 2019 = $1080.76
Since we had a goal in mind, we made more than a little bit of cash. We managed to bring in a little more than $1000 from side hustling during the month! It brings some comfort to know that, we can bring in some cash outside of Mr. Greenie's job. Below is a more detailed breakdown of our side hustle income for the month.
Control SMS App : $7.02
I get paid for receiving texts on my android phone. Telintel developed a testing network to verify that text messages are being received. I downloaded the free app and I receive texts over data or WiFi. I get paid on the 1st of the month via Paypal.
Smore App: $3.20 Amazon Gift card
S'more is a lock screen app, where you get points to unlock your phone. Maximize your smartphone's wasted screensaver space and earn money just by adding ads to unlocking your phone as you normally do. You just swipe past them and earn cash. I cash out my points in Amazon gift cards. You can get $1 in Amazon or other gift cards every 10 days. If you download S'more using this link or if you use my referral code JCSZA4, you get 25 points!
Fetch Rewards: $5 Amazon Gift card
Fetch Rewards- Scan your grocery receipt from any store. Every time you purchase a product from one of their participating brands, you'll earn points. It finds these products on your receipt for you, so it is simply clicking and earn. You also get bonus points whenever you submit a receipt from participating stores. I get points when I submit Smith's grocery store receipts. Cash out your points for gift cards. The code Y2GBD gives you 1500 points ($1.50) when you join. Cashout at only $3.
Ebates: $1.64
Ebates is a popular shopping cashback site in Canada and the United States.
The Ebates website or app is easy to use. To earn cash back, simply:
- Visit Ebates here and sign up. It takes less than 3 minutes and it is free to join.
- Whenever you need to make a purchase online, start at Ebates to find your favorite store and click to proceed to their website.
- Shop as usual and Ebates will automatically credit your account with cash back.
- Cash out your earnings via check in the mail or by PayPal.
People often forget to shop using Ebates and hence do not maximize their potential cash back earnings. This is why Ebates introduced their browser extension which you can install on Google Chrome. Whenever I make purchases online, the Ebates Cash Back Button reminds me to activate cash back offers with a single click.
Postmates Delivery app: $17.00
A lot of people think there isn’t money to be made in deliveries, but Mr. Greenie's experience has been totally different. There is money to be made with doing deliveries, especially if you’re only doing deliveries during lunch and dinner hours. Mr. Greenie had work slowed down due to rainy weather and he was able to side hustle more. This is akin to getting a pizza delivery job, but you decide when you work by turning on the app. Great for someone who enjoys driving as much as Mr. Greenie does.
Dog Care with Rover: $112
I like getting paid for things I'm already doing or that don't require much extra effort, like dog care. I get paid for doggy daycare, boarding dogs, walking dogs, or just stopping by to check on them.
Rover’s calendar allows you to mark your available days and hours, so you’ll field requests only for times you can work. For me, since I'm home about 99% of the time, I keep my schedule open to have dogs every day. I'm able to decide on each request that I receive if the dogs are a good fit with our kids and lifestyle.
My second Rover month was better than my 1st month, as I don't have many reviews yet due to being new to the platform. I did get two dog boardings this month which was super exciting. My first boarding was for 4 nights with a higher energy dog, which was difficult since we had 4 rainy days of taking him out.
My second boarding was for only 1 night, but with a much lower energy bulldog. He was definitely our favorite dog so far. He mostly sleeps and just hangs around. There was no getting on the furniture and he only needed to go out for bathroom breaks. Best of all, he was happy to get petted and bothered by UG1 and UG3 and just chill. We hope to have him stay with us again next time his owners go out of town!
Decluttering/Renting out Stuff: $935
This category basically consists of random things I either sold or rented out this month around the house that we don't use frequently.
In May, I ended up selling $935 worth of stuff that I found around the house. It felt good to get that stuff gone and put the money towards UG3's arm and our funeral trip.
I sold a Gamer sign that was on our office door and a lamp on Facebook Marketplace for $5 each. They both sold within a few hours. We also sold Mr. Greenie's motorcycle that he didn't use for $900 on our local classifieds within a few days, which isn’t too bad. He wants to wait until we're financially independent and empty nesters before he risks using a motorcycle.
I also rented out our incubator for $25 this month through our local classifieds and got paid on Paypal. We had gotten the incubator for free, so that was a nice return on our investment!
Most people don’t think about it, but you have a ton of stuff in your house that, in theory, can be sold or rented and turned into cash as well.
And that concludes the May 2019 Side Hustle Report!
I hope this post was helpful to you and gives you some ideas on how you can make a little extra income by getting paid to live your life. Hopefully, these types of posts give you some ideas.
